The appearance of the Mahdi, God Almighty willing, will occur immediately after the earth is filled with injustice and oppression, without any temporal gap. This meaning is supported by what Al-Hakim narrated in his Mustadrak.

The state of the earth at the time of the Mahdi's appearance will be similar to its state at the time of the appearance of Jesus, peace be upon him. In both cases, corruption had reached its peak, and there was no choice but to await the appearance of one of God Almighty's chosen ones for reform. Therefore, their appearance immediately after the peak of corruption is one of God Almighty's greatest blessings upon them. Their appearance during that difficult period will increase the severity of their trials and the abundance of their struggle with their tongues and hands. Thus, their status and standing with God Almighty will be elevated as a reward for what they used to do.

The question that is often asked is: In which stage is the Ummah of Muhammad, peace be upon him, living today? The answer to this question is clear to the eye, as reality is the greatest evidence for it. Here is the explanation:

The first stage: The stage of Prophetic Caliphate, which began with the advent of the Prophet, peace be upon him, in the year 608 AD, and ended with his death, peace be upon him, in the year 11 AH, corresponding to the year 631 AD.
