Muslim narrated in his Sahih, from Umm Salama (may Allah be pleased with her), that she said: "I said: 'O Messenger of Allah, why do the men go out for Hajj and Jihad, and we women do not go out for Hajj and Jihad?' Then the verse was revealed: 'And do not wish for that by which Allah has made some of you excel over others. For men is a share of what they have earned, and for women is a share of what they have earned. And ask Allah of His bounty. Indeed Allah is, of all things, Knowing.'" (An-Nisa 4:32)
