A EOT SPRING. 123 arrows. Tlie arrows are hideously barbed, and are said to be poisoned with the juice of a species of euphorbia.

The march to the next station, Kadrii, was made in two days ; the porters were very good and willing, and as the grass had been cut down for the first day's march, we went at a good pace. No signs of life were visible, and the absence of large trees was remarkable ; the ground was sandy, and contained a good deal of ironstone. Six small streams were crossed, none being of any importance. We noticed a great number of graves on the road, all of which were marked by stones ; sometimes the stones were placed so as to form a kind of pyramid, at other times one flat stone was put upon six or eight others placed in a circle. The little village at which we stayed the night was surrounded by large MADI GRAVES.
